Back coating on woven carpets
Sep-27-2021

Woven carpets do not require secondary backing. However, apply a thin latex coating on the back of the carpet, called back coating, to remove all creases and folds on the woven carpet, improve the tufting combination, promote good dimensional stability, and prevent the wear of wide carpet during cutting and installation. In a terry carpet, the tufts must be particularly strong to prevent "stepped" when a circle of Terry is inadvertently pulled out. The use of steam in this process will expand the hair cluster and improve the wool coverage and treatment.

Cut pile woven carpets and carpets need to be cut to produce a smooth and flat surface. Handmade carpets may be hand sheared by machines, and it is also common to carve gun tufted carpets to highlight the design area.
