Carpet Performance Summary
Apr-03-2021

Carpet is not only a kind of floor material, but also a kind of decorative building material, so the performance requirements of carpet fabric have both content.

(1) Fastness

The carpet needs to withstand a lot of pressure, the pressing of furniture and utensils, the stepping on people frequently walking, so that the fiber is often in a state of fatigue, so the carpet is required to have good wear resistance and pressure resistance. The pile needs to have good resilience and high density, and it is not easy to fall over. The daily cleaning of carpet dust is mostly absorbed by electric appliances such as vacuum cleaners. Therefore, the fiber and tissue structure of the carpet must have a certain fastness, and it is not easy to remove the pile.

Carpets are exposed to the air for a long time, and the color will be affected due to photosynthesis, especially sunlight. Therefore, there are certain standards and requirements for fiber color fastness.

(2) Warmth retention

The warmth retention of the carpet is determined by its thickness, density and the type of fiber used in the suede. The carpet is made of countless tufted piles or pile loops to form a thick and soft pile surface. The piles and pile loops are long and dense. A carpet with good bulkiness is especially good for warmth. When choosing fibers, consider their warmth retention. Synthetic fibers are generally better than natural fibers. Among natural fibers, wool is better than silk and hemp. In addition, the warmth retention of the carpet has a lot to do with whether there is a cushion under the carpet and the structure of the cushion. Therefore, the use of cushions can enhance the warmth retention of the carpet.

(Three) comfort

The comfort of the carpet mainly refers to the comfort of the feet when walking. This includes the properties of the fiber, the softness, elasticity and fullness of the suede. Natural fibers are better than synthetic fibers in terms of foot comfort, especially wool fibers, which are soft and elastic, and move comfortably and lightly. Chemical fiber carpets generally have the defect of lagging feet. Carpets with a pile height between 10-30mm have good softness and elasticity, fullness without losing strength, and comfortable walking feeling. The suede is too short, although it is durable and easy to walk, but it lacks soft elasticity and has a poor foot feel.

(4) Sound absorption and sound insulation

The carpet needs to have good sound absorption and sound insulation performance, which requires careful selection when determining the fiber material, the thickness and density of the carpet surface, and the size of the sound absorption rate to meet the requirements of sound absorption and sound insulation performance in different environments. Theaters, large conference halls and other places pay great attention to the sound quality, and strive to avoid noise intrusion. The sound absorption and sound insulation performance of the carpet is relatively high. Generally, it can be properly mastered for home use.

(5) Antifouling

When the carpet is used, it is exposed to a large area. People often walk on it and take a rest. Dust and debris can easily stain the carpet. Therefore, the carpet is required to be resistant to pollution and easy to decontaminate and clean. Carpets used in family rooms need to be stain-resistant and easy to clean daily.

Carpets also need to have good antibacterial, anti-mildew, and anti-moth properties. Especially carpets made of wool fibers are used in environments with high temperature and humidity, which are very easy to mold, so they need to be mothproofed. To ensure the good performance and service life of the carpet.

(6) Security

The safety of carpet includes two aspects: antistatic and flame retardant.

When people walk on the carpet, the soles of the shoes and the suede will easily generate static electricity. Once the fingers touch the metal objects, there will be a slight electric shock sensation. Static electricity also makes the carpet pile easy to get dust, and produces a feeling of tangled feet, which is especially obvious for chemical fiber carpets. For this reason, some antistatic methods are currently being studied, such as mixing metal fibers, carbon and conductive fiber materials in the pile fibers, or mixing extremely fine carbon black into the glue on the back of the carpet, which can prevent and reduce static electricity. produce.

Modern carpets need to be flame-retardant, low-smoke and non-toxic when burned. At present, wool carpets have good flame retardancy, while carpets made of synthetic fibers are very easy to burn and melt. The method adopted to improve the flame retardant properties of synthetic fiber carpets is to react with a flame-retardant copolymer in the polymer stage of the synthetic fiber production process, and then spin. This method is widely used in the production of acrylic fiber. Adding flame retardant at the polymer stage, and then spinning, this method is widely used in the production of polyester fiber. The above methods can improve the flame retardant performance of synthetic fiber carpets.
